Purcell’s music is deceptively beautiful and captivating. With his naturally flowing, almost nonchalant, melodies, Purcell catches the very essence of the human drama. His theatrical genius breathes life into a whole gamut of emotions, situations and conflicts.
In the opera Dido & Æneas both heroes/lovers take risks. Neither dares to go for their happiness. The result of their choice makes this opera so tragic, and so deeply human.
